Chapter 7 of 7

Red team

Larkspur has defences against planted text and against customers who push. Before the assistant goes live, the team attacks it on purpose with every defence as a setting.

This chapter: Which set of defences stops every attack in the suite and still serves every customer, and what does that prove?

You will learn

  • How to run an attack suite and a customer suite under every defence
  • How to read attack success rate and false-block rate together
  • Why the suites become a release gate, and why a clean run proves less than it seems
Words you’ll meet (4)
Red team
People who attack a system on purpose, before real attackers do, to find what gets through.
Attack suite
The fixed set of attack emails, each with a check of whether its goal was met.
Customer suite
The fixed set of ordinary customer emails, each with a check that the customer got what they asked for.
Release gate
A rule that decides whether a change ships, from an eval run against a bar.

The picture on the left is live. Each step below asks you to do one thing in it; the story continues here as you go.

Step 1 of 3

The red team’s bench. Every defence from this module is a control, and every change reruns both suites: the 5 attacks (the injections and the policy pushes) and the 2 ordinary customers. With nothing on, 5 of 5 attacks get through. The readout gives the attack success rate, the false-block rate and a verdict; pick a case to watch it on the stage. Turn on any defence to start.
